How We Are Largest Democracy ?

Opposition members protest in the well of the Rajya Sabha in New Delhi

It is generally seen that communication between the ruling party and opposition is maintained both inside and outside Parliament. But after the 2014 election the conditions have changed. Conflicts between the two sides are on the rise. The ruling party has kept the slogan of liberating India from the main opposition party.

The Indian Constitution has set up several institutes for the administration of the country and they have not been able to make arbitrators, their work, liabilities and limitations have also been determined for this. In addition to the thick division of the judiciary, the executive, the legislature, the Election Commission, etc. are such institutions. Some of these representatives come by choosing not to come, but the Constitution expects to be responsible for both types of institutions.

From 2014 to 2018 the way Parliament’s proceedings have been made, it has become clear that the Parliament is no longer the place to solve issues through dispute, dispute and dialogue. His image is clouded. The prime ministers of countries like England, Canada and Australia, have been present in almost every session of parliament due to the strength and dignity of this parliamentary democracy. It is their responsibility as being the leader of the elected government. Nehru himself used to be present in almost all seasons. But the absence of India’s Parliamentary democracy is becoming a big reality.

The Constitution has also arranged for judicial review so that these institutions can be kept in control and the decisions taken by them can be termed as just and unjustified. But it is being seen that the institutions have kept their responsibilities aside and have started arbitrarily. The question is how to control them / the Indian parliamentary democracy has been entrusted with the task of monitoring them. The Constitution has given importance to the opposition so that the government cannot be autocratic. A majority party has got the right to form a government. It is the right of minority opposition to keep the elected government accountable.

For the first time in the history of independent India, some opposition parties proposed to remove the Chief Justice from office. Just a few months ago some judges of the Supreme Court also questioned the functioning of the Chief Justice. The image of the judiciary has got tarnished from all these. Judasari has been seen in the Indian society with great respect. This belief of the public is also maintained because its power is autonomous and independent. For this reason he has been the guardian of democracy. His politicization will weaken the foundation of democracy.

Certainly there is little responsibility for this distance. Both have ignored one another. Budget session of March-April was completely disappointing. The proceedings of the Parliament were interrupted. The Opposition adopted the path of full non-cooperation, for which BJP was responsible for the opposition. There was a continuation of accusations and reactions. For the first time in the history of independent India, a Prime Minister fasted for one day on this issue.
