In a major security scare near the national capital, a joint team of Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana Police has recovered 350 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, two assault rifles, and timers from Faridabad, days after the arrest of a Kashmiri doctor linked to the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
The recovery followed key disclosures made during the interrogation of Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather, a resident of Anantnag, who was earlier arrested from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly putting up pro-JeM posters in Srinagar. Based on Rather’s inputs, police traced the explosives to Faridabad, where they were reportedly stored by another Kashmiri doctor, Dr. Mujammil Shakeel, from Pulwama, who has now also been arrested.
Explosives Stockpiled in Delhi’s Backyard
Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta confirmed the recovery, stating that the explosives — 350 kg of ammonium nitrate — were found along with two assault rifles and timers. He added that while the rifles were not of the AK-47 make, they were “high-grade assault weapons.”
“This was a coordinated operation between J&K and Haryana police based on intelligence from interrogation of the accused,” said Gupta, adding that a high-level investigation is underway to determine the intended target and how such a large consignment was transported so close to Delhi without detection.
Investigation Points to Larger Conspiracy
Sources suggest the scale of the explosives and timing devices indicates a major terror plot possibly being planned near Delhi-NCR, though officials have not confirmed any specific target. Intelligence agencies are now examining whether the module had links to Pakistan-based operatives.
The arrests of two doctors — both from Jammu and Kashmir — have shocked investigators, underscoring how terror outfits are expanding recruitment to include educated professionals with access to secure networks and resources.
Security agencies are on high alert as the investigation continues into how the explosives were smuggled, and whether more individuals within professional circles may be involved in this terror nexus operating alarmingly close to India’s capital.
