In a move set to redefine India’s telecom landscape, Reliance Jio has launched new recharge plans that allow its users to connect to BSNL’s network in rural and remote areas where Jio’s own coverage is limited.
The development marks a strategic masterstroke by Mukesh Ambani, strengthening Jio’s reach deep into Bharat’s hinterlands — and turning up the heat on Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi).
Jio–BSNL Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) Launched
The new Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) plans let Jio users seamlessly switch to BSNL’s 4G network when Jio signal strength is weak or unavailable. Initially launched in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the service ensures uninterrupted voice, data, and SMS connectivity across the most remote corners of India.
According to a TelecomTalk report, Jio said:
“BSNL ICR service is available on select prepaid recharges offered by Jio. This allows customers to use voice, data, and SMS services by connecting to the BSNL network within the same geographical circle, at select locations.”
Two Exclusive Jio Plans for Rural Users
Jio has rolled out two dedicated recharge plans under the ICR model — priced at ₹196 and ₹396, both valid for 28 days. These packs are exclusive to the BSNL network, meaning users cannot access Airtel or Vi towers under this arrangement.
The company clarified that the plan remains queued until first usage and gets automatically activated upon making or receiving a call, sending an SMS, or using mobile data.
Strategic Blow to Rivals
Industry experts call this a game-changing partnership, giving Jio a coverage edge that Airtel and Vi simply cannot match. For BSNL, the deal means new network utilization and revenue flow without major infrastructure investment — a win-win for both players.
By bridging Bharat’s last-mile connectivity gap, Mukesh Ambani has once again proven that Jio’s strategy goes beyond competition — it’s about domination. Airtel and Vi may now find themselves scrambling to match Jio’s latest rural connectivity coup.
