In a historic and deeply symbolic moment for Sanatan tradition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the Bhagwa Dhwaj on the main spire of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on 25 November, marking the formal completion of the temple’s construction.
The grand ceremony will take place between 11:58 AM and 1 PM, during which the Prime Minister will activate the hoisting of the sacred flag at the press of a button.
A Saffron Flag Rooted in Ayodhya’s Divine Heritage
Champat Rai, General Secretary of the Ram Mandir Trust, confirmed that the flag will be saffron, featuring the sun symbol, the sacred ‘Om’, and an image of the Kovidar tree — all tied to Ayodhya’s ancient heritage, Suryavansh lineage, and the spiritual essence of the Ramayana.
The temple’s main shikhar stands 161 feet, topped with a 30-foot flagpole. The Bhagwa flag will therefore fly 191 feet above the ground, visible across Ayodhya — a powerful declaration of civilisational pride and spiritual resurgence.
Why the Flag Matters in Sanatan Dharma
In Indian tradition, a temple without a flag is considered incomplete. The temple flag is seen as the abode of divine energy, symbolising protection, presence, and blessings. A fluttering flag indicates active divine power, enhancing spiritual vibrancy in the region.
An automatic 360-degree rotating mechanism has been installed for hoisting and periodic replacement of the flag, ensuring it always turns in the direction of the wind.
Ram Parivar Now Seated; Temple to Fully Open After Ceremony
With the completion of construction, Ram Parivar is now seated (‘virajman’) on the first floor. An aarti of the Ram Parivar will be performed during the ceremony.
Nripendra Misra, Chairman of the Temple Construction Committee, said the event will host 6,000–8,000 invitees.
After the Bhagwa Dhwaj is hoisted at the summit, the temple will be completely opened to devotees. Until now, darshan has been limited to the sanctum sanctorum and the first floor. With the flag installed, the entire complex will be accessible.
A new era begins in Ayodhya, with the Bhagwa flag soaring over the birthplace of Shri Ram, signalling both completion of the sacred mandir and the reawakening of a civilisation.
