The Uttarakhand government has decided to recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation probe in the Ankita Bhandari case, responding to the request made by the victims parents. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the decision reflects the governments continued commitment to justice, transparency, and sensitivity in a case that deeply affected the state.
The move comes after sustained legal action by the state that has already resulted in convictions. The government has stressed that the decision to hand over the case to the CBI is being taken purely to respect the sentiments of the family and reinforce public confidence.
Swift Action After the Incident
Chief Minister Dhami stated that from the moment the tragic incident came to light, the state government acted without delay. A Special Investigation Team was immediately constituted, led by a woman IPS officer, keeping in mind the sensitivity and seriousness of the case.
All accused were promptly arrested during the investigation. The government ensured strong and effective legal representation, which prevented the accused from securing bail at any stage. The SIT completed a detailed investigation and filed a charge sheet in court.
Following the trial in the lower court, the accused were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. The Chief Minister said this outcome demonstrated the governments firm and impartial approach to justice.

Government Stresses Transparency and Fairness
Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that the entire process was carried out with fairness and transparency. He said the case shows that the government did not allow pressure or influence to interfere with the rule of law.
He also confirmed that separate FIRs have been registered in connection with certain audio clips circulating on social media. Investigations into those aspects are ongoing, and no material evidence will be ignored.
The Chief Minister stated that Ankita was not just a victim, but a daughter and sister, and that the state stands with her family
CBI Probe Recommended After Meeting Parents
The Chief Minister recently met Ankita Bhandaris parents, who requested a CBI investigation. Respecting their wishes and emotions, the state government decided to recommend the probe.
Dhami reiterated that the governments intention remains clear and focused on justice. He assured that the administration will continue to act with sensitivity and determination until every concern related to the case is addressed.
