Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that all highway projects will undergo mandatory performance audits, with roads soon displaying QR codes revealing the names and contact details of officials, contractors, and consultants responsible for maintenance.
"QRs will be put up on all projects. They'll tell:
-> Which contractor built the road
-> Which Ministry is responsible
-> Which secretary approved it~ Why should I take the blame for all roads? Let the Sec, & others bear the burden too"

Speaking at a CII conference, Gadkari said roads must not only be built well but maintained well. “Every road should show who is responsible — the minister, secretary, contractor, and consultant. If a road is bad, people should know who to call,” he said.
The move aims to boost transparency and accountability across India’s highway network, allowing citizens to track project details and hold authorities directly answerable for poor-quality work.
