In a historic first, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday reached Milam, a high-altitude region in Munsyari near the India-China border, where he met and encouraged ITBP soldiers stationed in extreme conditions.
Wearing an ITBP uniform, CM Dhami interacted with the troops, commending their courage and dedication. “Our soldiers are protecting the nation in the toughest terrains. Their bravery fills every Indian with pride,” he said.
Focus on Border Tourism Development
The Chief Minister noted that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Adi Kailash, Gunji, and Jyolingkang, the region had gained global recognition as a new spiritual and adventure tourism circuit. He added that Milam too holds vast potential to be developed as a high-altitude tourist destination, promoting trekking, adventure tourism, and employment for local youth.
“After Prime Minister Modi’s visit, the Adi Kailash region has gained international fame. Milam will also be developed along similar lines, opening new opportunities for tourism and livelihood,” Dhami said.
New Projects Announced for the Region
During his visit, the Chief Minister announced the beautification of the Nanda Devi temple in Milam and the construction of a community hall in Bilju village, promising that development in the Johar valley would move forward with a balance of infrastructure growth and cultural preservation.
Dhami’s visit — the first by any Chief Minister to Milam — marks a symbolic gesture of both solidarity with border forces and a renewed commitment to frontier development, reinforcing Uttarakhand’s role as both a strategic and spiritual gateway to the Himalayas.
