The Uttarakhand government has announced a free pre-recruitment training program for young men and women preparing to join the Indian Armed Forces under the Agniveer scheme. The initiative, approved by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, aims to channel the state’s deep-rooted military tradition into structured opportunities for youth who aspire to serve the nation.
Training Across All 13 Districts
The Department of Sports and Youth Welfare has issued a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure smooth implementation of the program across all 13 districts. The training will cover both physical and written exam preparation, alongside sessions on discipline and personality development to help candidates meet recruitment standards.
Officials said the scheme ensures equal access for rural and remote youth, reinforcing the government’s goal of making defence preparation both inclusive and effective.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Candidates must be residents or natives of Uttarakhand, or currently studying or working in an institution within the state. A minimum of 45 per cent marks in high school and 33 per cent in each subject is required. The minimum age limit is 16 years.
The government said these criteria would help identify motivated and eligible youth while maintaining quality standards for recruitment readiness.
CM Dhami’s Vision for National Service
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the program embodies Uttarakhand’s proud military heritage. “Our state has always produced brave soldiers who have served the nation with honour. This free training will help our youth join the armed forces as Agniveers and serve Bharat with pride,” he said.
The initiative carries personal significance for Dhami, who is the son of an Army soldier and has often spoken about Uttarakhand’s strong connection with the armed forces. His government’s move has been widely appreciated as a patriotic and practical step to strengthen youth participation in national service.
